Overview | Citation management options| Downloads| Exporting citations| Support OverviewCitation management tools allow researchers to organize, manage, and
share lists of citations. Some also store images, PDF's and other formats.
They also format bibliographies to any citation style (journal, society,
custom, plus others). Citations can be imported directly from most databases,
publishers, journal websites, and search engines such as Google Scholar.
They are becoming more robust and easier to use. EndNote Basic (Web) and EndNote are the current software applications available to NOAA researchers via NOAA-wide license. There are also some open source options. See this comparison
chart for a quick overview of the features offered by each. EndNote
Web is web-based, not client-based, which means that it can be accessed
from any computer with internet access.
Virtually all literature databases provide a citation export function for EndNote and most are obvious and easy to use. After running a search, look for an export link on a database results page or individual citation record. Simply follow the instructions for exporting citations to a bibliographic manager. NOAA West access to ProQuest databases:We are currently subscribed to Aquatic Science and Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA), Conference Papers Index, Meteorological & Geoastrophysical Abstracts, and Water Resources Abstracts. Connection files for our licensed databases are available for download here. Links to additional, non-NOAA specific helper files that may have been added or updated since your software installation...
Here are training and support resources for each product. The User Education page also links to other NOAA specific citation manager training resources.
